Keep It Green & Eco-Friendly
In today’s day and age, it’s critical that we work at saving our planet. After all, we only have one Mother Earth. But did you know that saving the planet includes properly caring for your home’s landscape and property? If you’re one of the many homeowners who deals with endless water saturation and pooling on your lawn, then we have a solution that will help—green infrastructure solutions. This method of water retention is a newer, eco-friendly approach to managing storm water—and it can be the solution you’ve always dreamed about for your lawn.
What exactly are green infrastructure (GI) solutions?
In a nutshell, green infrastructure is a natural solution for redistributing storm water. It captures storm water and returns it to the environment. When storm water is captured, it can be reused rather than wasted as it flows into the sewers or piping systems (where it often picks up contaminants that then flow into lakes and rivers). Green infrastructure is a way of protecting, restoring and even mimicking the natural water cycle so that your community and eco-system can benefit.
What types of GI methods can Lisk provide to my landscape?
There are a number of green infrastructure methods our team uses to improve your water retention. And the great news is that because the storm water is reused, all of these options help prevent pollution in our rivers, streams and lakes by reducing water runoff.
Water Retention Methods That Naturally Recycle Rain Water
There are a number of ways that Lisk Landscape Innovations can help you recycle storm water. Here are some of the most common methods we perform:
Rain gardens are created in a depressed area of your lawn and are designed to capture rainwater. They help reduce runoff and flooding while also cutting down on pollutants and sediment that typically gather in storm water runoff—and later enter storm drains. Rain gardens can be beautiful and are often filled with flowing grasses, colorful plants and perennials. Plus, they often attract butterflies. When planted properly, they recharge groundwater, conserve water and even help eliminate mosquitoes, which require at least seven days of standing water to complete their reproduction cycle.
Another ideal method for stormwater management is pervious pavement. This type of pavement is somewhat porous and allows water to filter through the pavement and return to the soil. It reduces stormwater runoff as well as pollutants and contaminants.
Garden swales prevent flooding and help recycle rainwater by irrigating your garden, too. They differ from rain gardens because they hold rainwater in a ditch and slowly filter the collected water into the soil and plants.
Storage containers (cisterns & barrels)
Cisterns and rain barrels collect falling rain and also rainwater runoff from rooftops. This water is then reused for landscaping purposes and other things, such as watering gardens or plants. Some storage containers are professionally designed for maximum results in capturing the water.
Natural Solutions for a Greener World
At Lisk, we like to help homeowners “go green” by implementing eco-friendly technologies that benefit the planet. If you’re seeking green infrastructure for your landscape, we can easily design a water retention system that matches your property’s unique characteristics and needs.
All of the water capturing systems we design and install can be integrated into spaces, such as swimming pool areas, outdoor patios, property boundaries and more. They are the most natural approaches to conserving water, alleviating flooding, reducing water runoff and protecting the environment from tainted storm water. Ready to go green?
